LIVESTRONG Philadelphia Challenge 2010

Thanks to those of you who helped by making a donation, our LIVESTRONG Challenge Team raised over $7K to help fight cancer this past Sunday. The entire weekend event of over 5,000 cyclists and runners raised over $3M. The weather didn't cooperate but at least the rain cooled things off. Lance Armstrong made an appearance and rode about 45 miles of the course. Slick roads caused me to crash but my wounds will heal quickly, unlike the hearts of those who have lost someone special to cancer. If you would still like to donate, you can do so using this secure link.

Thank you, again, for those who donated.

LIVESTRONG! ~ Tom

August 2010

As promised, I am reaching out to you for your support to donate to the LIVESTRONG organization, founded by Lance Armstrong after his battle with testicular cancer. After nearly losing his life to cancer, he came back and won the Tour de France 7 consecutive times with the help of his team.

A few of you know that cycling is a passion of mine, after antique wood, of course. Here's a picture of me about to ride even after I cut my finger on the table saw. My wife, Cris (she does my website and newsletters) and I are active road and mountain bicyclists and have followed the Tour and Lance for years. So this is a way we can enjoy our riding and help an important cause.

While neither of us has lost any family members to cancer, we have lost some dear friends: Beverly Yates (age 55), who died after 3 courageous years battling breast cancer; Cord Bridgeman (age 47), my best friend's brother, who lasted about 6 weeks after diagnosis of metastasized lung cancer; Barry Pyke (age 45), who succumbed to a vicious throat cancer; and Michael Timbro (age 29), an amazing person Cris taught with years ago who was diagnosed with Leukemia a week after his honeymoon.

Cancer affects all of us. Here is a chance to make a difference by joining together. I'm sorry to use this pathway for other than what you subscribed for, but I hope you can understand my desire to fight cancer any way I can.

I am riding the 100-mile LIVESTRONG Challenge in on August 22. I'm asking you to donate just $5, or more if you can. The Old Wood Workshop has 2,000 + subscribers, so just you folks could make a big difference. Cris and I have both paid our $250 entry fee without relying on donations.

The ride is August 22, so rather than put it off, I'd ask those of you thinking of making a donation to please do it NOW

If you have trouble with the link above, go here

http://www.livestrong.org/Donate/Support-Event-Participants and search for "LIVESTRONG Challenge Philly" and "Thomas Campbell of Pomfret CT."

For anyone donating $10 or more, I will send you a LIVESTRONG wrist band. For anyone that donates $50 or more, I will also send you an Old Wood Workshop T-shirt. If you would like to receive one of these thank you gifts, please send me your mailing address (& T-shirt size).

As an added incentive for current or future wood customers, if you donate from $100-$500, I will credit 50% of your donation on a pending or future Old Wood Workshop sale.

Thanks for your time and consideration! And if you donate, thank you for supporting me in this LIVESTRONG Challenge.
