NEW INVENTORY
Circa 1750, hinged or swinging wall. This room divider was one of
only a few items saved from the demolition of a 1750’s cape
in Ledyard, CT. The wall is hinged at the top and hung from the
ceiling using four hand-wrought, 6” H-hinges. It could be
pushed up to the ceiling and fastened to make two smaller rooms
into one large room. It has a door for access between the two rooms.
The wall is made from hand-planed and beaded pine planks that range
from 10” to 17” wide. The wall is 86” high and
11’4” wide. The raised panel door is 30”x77”.
The wall has a number of layers of paint, some of which is falling
off. It should be scraped or stripped and painted.
The wall would make a unique, permanent end wall for a tavern room
or bar area or again be used as a room divider.
